Yumiko Watanabe
Term: 2013-2015
Japan
Yumiko discovered the world of beadwork when she came across a bag charm made of crystals. Having an inquiring mind, which she attributes to her experience as an avid athlete, she started exploring beadwork by learning all kinds of associated techniques and skills, including Japanese-style beadwork, crochet, bead color coordination, art clay silver, off-loom weaving, and wireworking. As a member of a curriculum design committee, she has analyzed beading techniques from the viewpoint of learners and has thoroughly studied the basics of creativity. She feels most fulfilled when she can come up with new collaborative techniques to express her creativity.
